Paged Content
Paged Content
LEAF offers the Islandora "Paged Content" object model to present readable images of multi-paged books, periodicals, photographs, etc. using the International Image Interoperability Framework (IIIF) Mirador paginated viewer. Paged Content functions as a ‘book’ of page images that can be viewed in order and at high resolution (think of a journal issue that presents all pages in order). Creating a Paged Content Repository Item is a multi-step process – first to create the ‘book collection’ to hold the pages, then the ‘children’ pages, and the related media.
Create the 'book' (Paged Content Object)
- Create Group node (Repository Item)
- Set Model to Paged Content
- Set Type to Collection
- Fill out the pertinent metadata fields
- Set Display hint to Mirador
- Save
Create the 'pages'
This can be done once the parent book is created.
- In the Paged Content About tab scroll to Pages -- Edit
- Click on 'Batch Upload Children'
- Set Content Type to Repository Item
- Set Model to Page
- Set Resource Type to Image
- Set Media Usage to Original File
- Upload multiple media files (If you have a large number of pages do this in batches)
- Set alt text for each media file
- Save
Create cover image
- In the Paged Content About tab scroll to Associated Media -- Edit
- Add a single image (the cover) as media
- Set media usage to thumbnail ONLY
- Save
You can add more pages to the book. This may require that you check how the pages are ordered (they can be reordered in the same screen where you batch upload files.)
